Join our community of engaged and engaging literary professionals with Southern New Hampshire University’s two-year, low-residency Master of Fine Arts in fiction and nonfiction.

Did you know that New Hampshire is home to 1,200 published writers, including three poet laureates?

Our low-residency program enables you to work on your writing at home and meet with peers, mentors and faculty online. During the summer and winter residencies, you’ll immerse yourself in the writer’s life, meeting with fellow writers and nationally known writers, giving and listening to readings, participating in critiques, and writing in truly inspirational settings that are steeped in literary history. In addition, students will have the opportunity to meet and gain advice from publishing insiders.

Why pursue an M.F.A. in fiction and nonfiction at Southern New Hampshire University?

  • Immediate opportunities to publish as a graduate student.
  • Ability to connect students with agents, advisors and other publishing insiders.
  • Internship opportunities; unique for a low-residency program.
  • Program is competitively priced.
  • Opportunities to draw in writers with an environmental focus.
  • Immediate opportunity to teach for SNHU’s online Creative Writing program.

Our residencies, held on Star Island in the Isles of Shoals in the summer and at the Mountain Grand View Resort in the winter, offer wonderful energy, a sense of adventure and an experience that will nurture your creativity and provide opportunities for quiet reflection, intimacy and inspiration.

By the time you graduate, you’ll have completed a publishable manuscript and be part of a supportive writer’s community.
