SNHU Once Again Recognized as a Top Employer in Higher Education, Most Innovative in the North

Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) was recognized today as a top university by two national publications. SNHU was named “A Great College to Work For” for the 14th year in a row as part of the Great Colleges program, one of the largest and most respected workplace-recognition programs in the country. U.S. News & World Report also announced today that SNHU has been named the Most Innovative university in the North as part of its annual Best Colleges rankings. SNHU has been named to both rankings every year since their inception.

“While we are very proud of these distinctions, there is an equal amount of pride in knowing that we have been able to create a community that our employees can depend on for support in such uncertain times,” said Paul LeBlanc, President, SNHU. “After working remotely for many months, it is really special to know that our employees feel that SNHU is more than a workplace, but a community that they feel a part of no matter where they are in the world.”

As one of the largest employers in the Granite State, SNHU is the only university from New Hampshire to make the Great Colleges list. SNHU also earned Honor Roll status 11 years in a row for scoring well across multiple categories, including Job Satisfaction & Support, Compensation & Benefits, Professional Development, Mission & Pride, Supervisor/Department Chair Effectiveness, Confidence in Senior Leadership, Faculty & Staff Well-being, and Diversity, Inclusion & Belonging.

ModernThink LLC, a strategic human capital consulting firm that has conducted numerous “Best Places to Work” programs, administered the survey and analyzed this year's results.

“Leadership in crisis is both art and science,” said Richard K. Boyer, principal and managing partner at ModernThink, LLC. “The leaders at this year’s recognized institutions guided their institutions through unprecedented challenges with vision and transparency, all while modeling a spirit of partnership and genuine care for their fellow colleagues.”

All full-time faculty and staff were invited to participate in the survey and more than two-thirds offered feedback. Based on the top three responses, SNHU employees believe that the University takes appropriate steps to protect the health and safety of faculty, staff and students, offers benefits that meet employee needs, and contributes to the community in a positive way.

Now in its 14th year, the Great Colleges program recognizes the institutions that get top ratings from their employees on workforce practices and policies. The survey results are based on 196 applications from participating colleges and universities, and were comprised from a two-part assessment process: an institutional audit that captured demographics and workplace policies, and an anonymous survey administered to faculty, administrators and professional support staff.

The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was employee feedback. The survey asked staff and faculty nationwide to assess their employers’ leadership, career opportunities, compensation and overall work environment.

The "Most Innovative Schools" category from U.S. News solely relies on a peer assessment survey completed by college presidents, provosts and admission deans - who are asked to nominate institutions "that are making the most innovative improvements in terms of curriculum, faculty, students, campus life, technology or facilities." As one of the fastest growing universities in the country, SNHU has topped the list for seven consecutive years.
