“I wanted to further myself in the healthcare field,” he said.

That's why Blaeser chose to earn his master's in healthcare administration at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU).

He said he was inspired by hearing stories from others who had positive experiences at SNHU. “The interactions with people they have come across … the family feel of the university, the simplicity almost, where they give you everything you need to succeed,” he said. “It feels like it was meant to be.”

According to Blaeser, his academic advisor, Sara Santiago, was a big part of why. “Without her, I don't think I would have gotten through a lot of the courses,” he said. “Enjoying my time here, spending my time here, but also working with her — it was amazing.”

As an online student, Blaeser made use of the student support services available to him, and he encouraged others to do the same. “Students should definitely take advantage of the vast library that they have here, the online library,” he said.

He also pointed to the writing center as being a beneficial resource. “Anything you need in terms of … your schoolwork, writing any resumes, papers, or anything like that,” he said. “They’re very helpful.”

Blaeser said he's already putting what he learned to work in his current role.

“Healthcare administration is connecting with people, connecting with patients, connecting with clients, connecting with everybody you see, along with those statistics and data that you use every day in healthcare as well,” he said. “I’ve absolutely been able to use what I’ve learned through this program in my career, in my everyday profession in a multitude of different ways.”

As for what's next, Blaeser said he's still figuring it out. “Hopefully, continuing to work in the hospital setting, using my healthcare administration degree to further myself and start a good base for myself moving forward,” he said. "I'm just excited to see what the future holds.”
