Celebrating National Nurses Week 2026

Dr. Peggy Moriarty-Litz, chief nursing administrator at SNHU.

A message to my fellow nurses:

As we celebrate National Nurses Week in the United States, I want to extend my heartfelt appreciation to each of you. This is a moment to pause, reflect and honor the extraordinary work we do — work that is often quiet, many times unseen, but always deeply impactful.

The American Nurses Association (ANA) has named 2026 Nurses Week "The Power of Nurses™," a fitting tribute as the ANA marks its 130th anniversary. For more than a century, nurses have shaped patient outcomes, strengthened communities and influenced policy that improves the health of our nation. Our profession continues to lead with innovation, advocacy and unwavering dedication.

Why do we matter? Because value-driven care is rooted in worth, integrity and usefulness-and nurses embody all three. For the 24th consecutive year, the Gallup Poll recognizes nurses as the most trusted profession in the United States. Our honesty, ethics, competence and compassion remain the hallmarks of our practice.

Across every setting, nurses bring:

  • Professionalism and practicality
  • Diversity in backgrounds and perspectives
  • Expertise in clinical and educational knowledge
  • Unwavering commitment to human dignity and healing

Thank you for the countless ways you show up for your patients, your students, for each other and for our profession. Your work makes a difference every single day.

Our take? Every week should be Nurses Week
