Frequently Asked Questions

Absolutely. RN to BSN online programs — like Southern New Hampshire University's — can be a great option for post-licensure registered nurses with busy schedules.

SNHU's RN to BSN program is designed for nurses who have already completed an accredited associate program in nursing. As the demand grows for nurses with bachelor's degrees, a BSN is a strong resume builder — and SNHU's flexible class schedules mean you can fit college into your life, even with a demanding healthcare career.

It depends on a couple of things: how many courses you take per term, and your prior educational experience. The good news is that having RN licensure means you’re well on your way to completing your BSN.

At Southern New Hampshire University, your unencumbered RN license alone is worth 45 credits of your BSN. And because we accept up to 90 transfer credits for a bachelor's degree, you could complete your RN to BSN program in as little as 1 year.

Sometimes. Ultimately, the order in which you earn your RN and BSN is up to you.

Some universities offer what are referred to as pre-licensure or direct-entry BSN programs, which don't require RN licensure to enroll. These programs are a great option for students who would like to focus on schooling first before taking the NCLEX and becoming a registered nurse.

Other programs, like SNHU's RN to BSN program, are designed for students who are already registered nurses. These students might have received their associate degree through a community college or similar institution and are working as nurses in the field, but are looking to earn their BSN. Today, more and more hospitals and care facilities are requiring nurses to earn bachelor's degrees, making a BSN a valuable credential — regardless of your goals in the field.

Earning a bachelor's degree in nursing can certainly feel challenging. But when you choose a supportive university like SNHU, you'll have the resources you need to be successful.

As an RN to BSN student in SNHU's online program, you'll work with a dedicated academic advisor from day 1 to graduation. You'll learn alongside peers with similar goals and be taught by instructors with healthcare experience. Plus, you'll have access to academic support resources like 24/7 tutoring — so when course material feels particularly difficult, you can get the help you need.

They definitely can be. When it comes to choosing the right online program, one important factor to keep in mind is credibility — and that often comes in the form of accreditation.
