Graduation Year: 2025
State: Massachusetts
Her 'Why': Dreams of creating an organization that focuses on out-of-school time programming for children and families

For Paola Andrea Gaona Salamanca '25, crossing the commencement stage was more than a personal accomplishment. "I didn't come alone. I wanted my family, my grandparents in particular to be here for this moment. It is my achievement but it's also their achievement," she said.

Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) wasn't where she began her college journey, but it became the place where she completed her bachelor's degree in business administration with a concentration in public administration.

A Degree that Honors Family and Fuels a Bigger Dream

Originally from Colombia and now living in Boston, Massachusetts, Gaona Salamanca has dedicated much of her career to her work with Boston Public Schools. "My dream is to work in education. I want to create an organization that focuses on out-of school time programming for children and families," she said.

Through SNHU's partnership with Boston Public Schools, Gaona Salamanca was able to earn her degree at a pace that fit her schedule. She said the program's flexibility and support helped her stay on track throughout her education journey.

For her, the greatest takeaway from her time at SNHU was the growth and personal maturity that came with it. She noted the competency-based program and the guidance of her DUET coaches was what helped her build structure, stay on track and navigate challenges at her own pace.

“My degree was absolutely worth it,” Gaona Salamanca said.
