SNHU Spotlight: Katwana Harris, BS in Healthcare Administration Grad

Katwana HarrisAfter working in the healthcare field for 20 years, Katwana Harris '21 decided to pursue a Bachelor of Science (BS) degree at Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU).

"(A) BS in Healthcare (Administration) provides me a variety of directions I can take in obtaining a career or sustaining my career in the healthcare field," she said.

Harris, who's from Aubrey, Texas, said that after having bad academic experiences in the past, she had concerns about going back to school. She was especially worried about tuition costs and adjusting to online classes.

“I was fearful because I’d always thought of myself as a traditional on-campus student, but SNHU proved me wrong," Harris said.

SNHU's Student Financial Services team also helped ease her fears about tuition costs by providing resources and support to help her lower her student debt. She said that everyone she spoke to, from finance counselors to academic advisors, followed up with her and provided answers to all her questions. Sonya Sweetman, her academic advisor, made her feel especially "supported, seen and heard," she said.

Harris appreciated how helpful the instructors were and the fact that they brought real-world experience to class discussions.

"My experience has been more than I could have ever imagined it to be and in the best way possible," she said.

Because of her positive experience, she has talked three of her co-workers into attending SNHU.

"I recommend SNHU because it allows us the opportunity to obtain our desired degrees in a reasonable time frame, to still be able to live our normal lives and meet the demands of work and family in the process of working towards our degrees," she said.

According to Harris, SNHU exceeded her expectations in more ways than one: "the costs, the extra help during the COVID-19 pandemic and everyone from my academic advisor to my professors were partners in making sure I had what I needed to succeed," she said.
