"I think this particular degree and its concentration will greatly help me in my historical writing and historical researching avocation."
For Timothy Connelly, online graduate education with Southern New Hampshire University was a way to translate his lifelong love of history to an academic milestone. Connelly earned a Masters of Arts in History, with a concentration in Military History. Connelly's professional background is in the insurance industry, but he is also a writer and historian, an avocation that inspired him to pursue further education in history. He is the author of multiple books and hundreds of articles, and said that his degree will greatly help him in his historical writing and research. In the future, he wants to expand his writing career and perhaps pursue even more education in history.
When it comes to his academic experience, Connelly says that he enjoyed working with classmates and instructors, and the wealth of opportunities to strengthen and expand his writing and researching skills. One achievement that he notes as especially meaningful is his induction into the National Society of Leadership and Success.
Connelly studied with SNHU online, but the on-campus graduation had special resonance for him. Connelly has cerebral palsy, and when he received his undergraduate degree from another college in 1983, the school was not accommodating of his disability. He says his experience at SNHU was the polar opposite. He was provided with an escort for the day, who helped him do a dry run onto the stage before collecting his diploma. "The whole experience was just incredible," he said. "Incredible beyond words."
