"I chose SNHU because it offered the flexibility of an online program, which allowed me to look for work during the days."
I blew off college as a young man in the military, thinking I had better things to do with my life than continue my education. After I got out of the military after 10 years (this was long before the "support the troops" movement), I found that people weren't falling all over themselves to hire military like I'd been told they were. I tried school, but marriage and kids were my reality and priority. I'd gotten lucky finding jobs I enjoyed, but they weren't really what I wanted to do.
The bottom fell out in 2012. I got divorced, and three months later lost my job. At 44, I found myself with experience in my chosen field, but no degree. I applied everywhere, but doors would not open to me because I didn't have a degree. I decided then that I couldn't afford to NOT go to school.
I chose SNHU because it offered the flexibility of an online program, which allowed me to look for work during the days. It was also far more affordable than any other online university I could find. I enrolled quickly and easily, got financial aid, and haven’t looked back. I am now employed at a fantastic company, and I attribute that to my pursuit of higher education. I know that once my degree is in my hand, I will be able to move into my field and stay with the same company, which has great educational benefits. In addition to working full-time, I am also carrying a 4.0 GPA, and my goal is to graduate with the same GPA. I may even go on for my master's degree thanks to the great educational benefits my company offers. SNHU made me see that it doesn't matter when or how you start pursuing a degree.
