Javier Olivarez

BA Communication - Public Relations, Class of 2016

"I think this has been a perfect opportunity to show me that I'm just in the prime of my life and I'm ready to give more."

Javier Olivarez '16 graduated with an online Bachelor of Arts in Communications with a concentration in Public Relations along with thousands of other SNHU students at commencement ceremonies in mid-May. He said the experience exposed him to opportunities far beyond moving up the ranks at his current job. "Because of what I've learned here and the amount of networking that you get to do at SNHU - a huge global environment of network here - I have been able to see that my potential is not just a next level at work," he said. "I have opportunities to reach a global space, and that makes me feel a little more empowered, a little more like I can go out into the world and make a difference."

Olivarez said he feels that he got a top-notch education with a lot of support from many of the people he worked with during his time in the communications program, including academic advisors and his instructors. The result, he said, was that he learned more about himself and his capabilities rather than just the mechanics of the public relations world.

"I think if I look back at what I originally wanted to gain from being a student at SNHU was really just understanding what public relations was about and earning the degree," he said. "What I ended up, now that I've graduated and earned that degree today, is I've learned more about who I am as a person, what my true potential is and how much more I can add to the world and to society. So I think this has really been a beneficial environment so that I can make the world a better place."

Olivarez said it's important to not become complacent and to remember that even later in life, there is always more to learn and new goals to reach for. "Education is important to me because especially as a student, many people do feet at a later age in life, you may think, 'Oh, what else do I have to learn? What else is out there for me?" he said. "But I think if you keep yourself focused on education and learning and accepting new knowledge, you're ready for anything that comes in the future. And I think this has been a perfect opportunity to show me that I'm just in the prime of my life and I'm ready to give more."
