"When you say 'SNHU,' it's...a higher standard."
When Alex Keriazes ’11 transferred to SNHU as a junior, he was working as public relations coordinator for Brett Moffitt Racing.
“It was more the reputation,” he says of his decision to pursue a bachelor’s degree in business studies with a concentration in business administration at SNHU. “When you say, ‘Southern New Hampshire University,’ it’s more of a higher standard.’’
NASCAR driver Brett Moffitt races for Michael Waltrip Racing with renowned teammate Travis Pastrana. Moffitt was just 16 when Alex met him at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway back in 2009.
The friendship led to a business proposition. Now, as Moffitt’s PR coordinator, Alex writes weekly press releases, updates the Web site and social media, coordinates autograph sessions and “babysits him at the race track,” making sure the competitive driver is hydrated and comfortable.
Alex says his class schedule gave him the flexibility to travel to races on the weekends, while classes improved his job performance and sharpened his focus.
“The best class I took at Southern New Hampshire University, the most motivating, was my first class, Entrepreneurship, with Professor Keith Moon,” Alex says. “That class motivated me to do all that I’m doing now. I somehow got lucky.”
His last class had a similar impact.
“The final project was writing a business plan,” he says. “And I was writing a business plan for my company!”
As Moffitt moves up through the NASCAR ranks, Alex has had to choose between following him and going his own way.
Recently, he decided to start a business, Racing Performance Marketing LLC.
“I’ll take the next Brett and help him,” he says. “I have a passion for working with younger drivers.”
